Most of us like a beautiful sunset. I’m certainly in that group that will spend countless hours at a favorite spot waiting, hoping for that gorgeous sunset. You know, the one that fills the sky with unbelievable color and maybe with a reflection off the water too.
If you happen upon a scene like that and a promising sunset is in the works, by all means set up your tripod and settle in for a good show. Sometimes however that sunset just doesn’t materialize because the clouds aren’t quite right or the clouds that were there to the West move out by the time the sun hits the horizon. When this happens, and it happens all too often by the way, don’t forget to turn around and look at the Eastern sky. Every once in a while you get a display like the one above. This view is looking East at sunset. Not much happening to the West but the clouds were developing just right in the opposite direction and the evening light graced the Eastern sky with a beautiful glow. It wasn’t on a road trip either. This one happened right at home. Next time you’re out looking for a sunset, don’t forget to turn around and look East. You may like what you see.
